The Roof Club

"The grand view of the sea is in Wei," Guanhai Wei, a stronghold by the East Sea, is one of the areas with the highest development potential within the Hangzhou Bay Bridge economic circle. With strong private enterprises and visitors often from Fortune 500 companies, there's a high demand for the design of the corporate reception clubhouse.

The mission was to transform it into a club with an Oriental charm that not only serves the leisure and social functions of a typical club but also embodies the elegant, reserved, and dignified spirit of the East, along with the pursuit of modern living quality. The owner specifically requested an Oriental-themed design, but the designer chose not to rely on traditional elements or old methods. Instead, they infused the poetic and refined essence of Eastern culture into a comfortable, human-centered modern space using contemporary design techniques and spatial sequencing.

The designer broke free from Oriental traditions, infusing the space with more contemporary elements. The fabric sofas, Western kitchen, sunroom, lighting, and oil paintings in the space not only meet functional needs but also draw people closer, avoiding alienation and encouraging relaxation and enjoyment rather than distant admiration.

Starting with planning, landscapes, gardens, and architecture serve as the foundational elements of the spatial sequence. By integrating garden and architectural design, the building's height is increased, and Eastern and Western gardens are created to enhance the comfort of the spatial scale and the quality of the landscape. This integration changes the previously cramped spatial experience, opening up the structure to bring the expansive external view and recreated Japanese garden landscape indoors, embodying the traditional Chinese concept of harmony between humanity and nature.

The use of natural light is a key focus of the project. Taking advantage of the excellent lighting conditions on the top floor and the integrated construction from the garden to the indoors, the designer employs light to create the indoor atmosphere. In different functional areas, through various materials and design methods, light creates rich variations. Not only does the space's brightness change with the natural and artificial light, but the sightlines within the space are also carefully arranged. With the treatment of partitions and coverings, visitors can see different indoor and outdoor scenes and states of each other at various times, angles, and views, facilitating interaction between people, space, and landscape.
